Eslava Group: Applied Energy Materials

Developing novel photoelectrodes and photocatalysts to drive clean energy research.

Vision

Our vision is to advance the science and engineering of solar‐driven chemical transformations, enabling a sustainable energy future built on clean fuels and circular chemical processes. We strive to create innovative photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic systems by designing new materials, interfaces, and architectures that efficiently capture sunlight and convert it into valuable products. By integrating insights from electrochemistry, photovoltaics, and functional materials research, we aim to overcome fundamental bottlenecks in charge generation, transport, and catalytic activity. Our work spans the discovery of semiconductor absorbers, the development of scalable synthesis routes, and the design of reactors that translate material performance into practical impact. Through rigorous characterization and a deep understanding of structure–property–function relationships, we seek to establish guiding principles that accelerate the deployment of solar fuels, solar chemicals, and related technologies, contributing to a resilient and low-carbon energy landscape.
