Bio:

Profile photoLiang Chen, Ph.D., GMICE, is Technical Team Lead at Leviat where he provides technical structural connection solutions. He obtained his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from The University of Sheffield, focusing on structural health monitoring and deep learning. He also got his MSc degree from Imperial College London focusing on structural steel design. During his research studies, Chen authored several publications, including “Structural Engineering from an Inverse Problems Perspective,” “Predicting Strain and Stress Fields in Self-Sensing Nanocomposites Using Deep Learned Electrical Tomography”, “Probabilistic cracking prediction via deep learned electrical tomography”. He focused on utilization of machine learning algorithms to significantly improve SHM efficiency and accuracy. After joining Leviat, Chen is committed to 1) lead the technical team to offer market lead technical service and 2) integrating advanced technologies such as programming automation and artificial intelligence into civil engineering to optimize workflows, design, marketing, and sales processes.
