Donations during 2018–19 totalled an unprecedented £65.5M, Imperial reveals in its Annual Fundraising Report.
Imperial’s tenth Annual Fundraising Report celebrates a record-breaking year of generosity, in which more than 5,900 people donated £65,456,342, the most ever to have been given in a single year.
A range of initiatives in education, research and campus development are set to benefit from this extraordinary level of support, and the Annual Fundraising Report offers some inspiring examples of how philanthropy is making a difference across the College community.
Showcasing the impact of philanthropy
Gifts profiled in this year’s Report include a £10M donation from Hugh and Josseline Langmuir to drive breakthrough new treatments for blood cancer; £5M from Dangoor Education to transform life and work across Imperial; and a major donation to support frontier research and scholarships in Chemical Engineering.
A special feature explores the 2019 launch of J-IDEA (the Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics), a rapid response research centre to predict and prevent global health crises. Co-founded by Community Jameel, the global philanthropy established by Mohammed Abdul Latif Jameel KBE, J-IDEA will apply cutting-edge data science and public health research to tackle the greatest global health threats.
Amongst the most popular ways to support students is through a donation to the President’s Scholarship Fund or one of the Dean’s Funds, and the Report includes a number of case studies showing how these donations have impact on the lives of talented students like Dr Hadi Alagha, who received a President’s PhD Scholarship, and Genevieve Hirsz, who received assistance through the Faculty of Medicine Dean’s Fund.
A growing community of generosity
The number of people giving to Imperial and the amount raised in donations has grown significantly since the first Annual Fundraising Report was published in 2010, when 1,766 people donated a total of £8.1M.
