Roles and Responsibilities of a GTA

The roles and responsibilities of GTAs, faculty members, or other professional staff members in the delivery of teaching or teaching-related duties to students are described on this page. Most importantly, GTAs work under the supervision of an academic member of staff, and therefore are not directly responsible for teaching, marking assignments, giving feedback, developing online materials and pastoral care. 

 

There are a variety of GTA opportunities in the Department of Bioengineeringincluding but not limited to: 

  • Teaching: study groups, lab demonstrations, journal club leaders and drop-in sessions 
  • Marking coursework 
  • Second marking exams 
  • Invigilating (Exams, masteries and progress tests) 
  • Note-taking 
  • One to one tutorials 
  • Sitting exam papers to check for errors 
  • Running revision sessions for first, second and third mastery attempts 

 

GTA's who wish to undertake invigilating during the examination periods must attend invigilator training held by the Student Office.
