Title: Segregation models in social sciences

Principle Investigators

Research Aims

We are interested in developing mathematical models of segregation both from an analytical and numerical point of view. Whereas these phenomena appear everywhere in sciences we will focus in this project on segregation models inspired from economics phenomena. We will be interested in the following:

  • Beckmann's urban models - We will investigate the assumptions which have to be made on the interactions between agents and on the congestion effects so that the Nash equilibrium of this game is made of different cities or one city with different city-centres.
  • Segregation among pedestrians - Two groups of randomly moving agents have to join the other members of their group based on a local information. We want to find which interaction rules lead to a fast solution of this problem.
