The facility will be specializing in the analysis of highly complex, environmentally sensitive materials that are difficult to characterize using a single technique. These often include low atomic weight, highly mobile elements such as hydrogen and lithium which give low contrast using conventional imaging techniques. Through the combination of electron microscopy, atom probe and cryo/vacuum transfer between instruments, multi-length scale and technique approaches can be optimized for material-specific challenges.
Material systems of interest include:
- Battery materials
- Energy materials
- Catalytic systems
- Soft/hard matter interfaces
- Liquid/solid interfaces
- Biological systems
