Professor Paul Matthews outlines the role of the Centre at Imperial within the UK DRI. Here he describes the multidisciplinary research activity of our centre, how we are building capacity, supporting early career researchers and how we are developing collaborations nationally and internationally.

Clinical trial call bannerDr Nir Grossman, Group Leader at UK DRI at Imperial, is leading a new innovative trial using deep electrical currents applied to the brain of people living with Alzheimer's disease. Recruitment for participants is now open (October 2021) for one year. 
The research team are seeking 24 patients with early-stage Alzheimer's. Any individual between 50-80 years old with a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment or early Alzheimer's disease. Other criteria include adequate visual & auditory acuity and capacity to give informed consent.

Two women sat on hammockThe Dementia Care Team at Imperial College Healthcare is part of the NHS Trust. The dementia care team supports patients with dementia, and their carers and relatives by providing a range of services for patients in hospital. The team operates across all Imperial linked hospitals: Charing Cross Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital, St Mary's Hospital and Western Eye Hospital.
