Diversity Policy for the London Geometry and Topology Seminar
The London geometry and topology community are committed to fostering a welcoming, open, and diverse research environment. We recognize that there are groups who remain under-represented in the discipline, particularly among senior academics and professionals. One of the ways we can try to address this is to take active steps to promote equality, diversity and inclusion among speakers in the London Geometry and Topology Seminar. To this end: (1) We are committed to seeking a diverse slate of speakers that reflects the diversity of the UK’s community of professional geometers and topologists in terms of gender and ethnicity/race. (2) We are committed to inviting speakers from all around the UK, and when possible from around the rest of Europe and the world. (3) We are committed to including speakers who are at a range of career stages. (4) We are committed to inviting speakers who work on questions across the full breadth of geometry and topology. When soliciting names of potential speakers the organizers emphasize that our aim to present a slate of speakers that is diverse in terms of gender, ethnicity/race, geography, and career stage.
In indicative terms, we would aim that over the year:
- At most 60% of the speakers would be male.
- At least 80% of the speakers would be from outside London.
- At least 50% of the speakers would be early-career researchers.
- All of the speakers will discuss recent results that are of broad current interest to the London geometry and topology community.
