Extremity injuries account for 34-75% of injuries experienced by civilians in contemporary conflict zones, a third of which are children. In non-conflict zones, 32% of road traffic injuries are extremity injuries. These stark statistics show the need for additional research that can help those injured, both immediately at the point of injury, but also beyond.
