The Resilient Sustainable Infrastructure Group addresses urgent climate and societal challenges by developing and investigating the performance of novel materials technologies using laboratory experiments, numerical modelling and large-scale field testing.
Dr Alalea Kia leads this group and has recently secured significant UKRI and Royal Academy of Engineering funding to develop climate change resilient infrastructure for a sustainable built environment. Our current research is primarily focused on essential critical infrastructure including airports, highways, railways and buildings, with significant involvement from both academic collaborators and industrial partners.
The research undertaken makes breakthroughs in material strength, durability and functionality, addressing significant structural, material, thermal and hydrological challenges. Our work has substantial economic, environmental and societal benefits, particularly to the construction and transportation sectors, and is supported by local government, transport infrastructure operators, product manufacturers, engineering consultancies and contractors.
Outstanding students and researchers are always welcome to reach out about potential Postdoc, PhD, visiting researcher, MEng and MSc research project opportunities. We continuously recruit candidates to join our diverse and dynamic group, get in touch if you would like to work with us or learn more about our research.
