The Centre for Smart Connected Futures is a cross-discipline research network based at Imperial College London. The Centre was founded in January 2018 to develop multidisciplinary collaborations to support the Industrial Internet of Things and Cyber-physical systems, and to facilitate co-creation with industrial partners and designers to ensure adoption and social acceptability of future IoT systems, services and products.
The emergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) is the most anticipated high impact topic across all of technology and will change the way we live and work generating trillions of dollars in economic benefits in coming years. By 2020, close to 30 billion connected things will be in use and this will span a wide range of industries. These cyber-physical systems will allow completely new services and business opportunities in the areas of smart cities and environments, smart grids, smart mobility and transport, as well as next generation industrial automation (industry 4.0).
The Centre for Smart Connected Futures defines its work through three major research themes: Connecting People with their Environments, Designing Future Connected Systems, Trusted Control Machines.
