Project case study ACEX Lecture Theatre
Three into one does go!
Three research offices on Level 4 ACEX, South Kensington Campus were converted into a single new fully accessible lecture theatre with shallow raked seating capacity for 100 students.
Primarily timetabled to serve the new Business School undergraduate programme, it is also available to other faculties and for events at other times.
The degree programme required additional space as students cannot be accommodated in existing Business School space. The lecture theatre is adjacent to existing facilities to ensure new students can be integrated into their home department.
The space provides a mix of “tilt and turn” and “fixed” seating so that Students can be taught and collaborate in smaller groups. There is power (incl. USB-C) to 50% of the seats and interactive technology and AV to enable hybrid learning.
Building fabric improvements include new tiering, seating, acoustic panels and secondary glazing. New mechanical and electrical systems have been installed to serve the new lecture theatre, including occupancy and CO2 controlled ventilation and scene selectable LED lighting.
Heavy enabling works during College closure at Easter and through April 2023 when there was less building occupancy, so that works could be carried out and completed ready for the Business School autumn term start that autumn.
Research offices were relocated to other facilities prior to works starting.
Estates Projects Delivery oversaw the transformation, carried out by principal contractor Russell Cawberry.
