The group is highly involved in teaching Undergraduate modules and MSc modules in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. If you are interested in doing an Undergraduate or a MSc research project, please contact us.
Teaching 1
CIVE70069-Polymers and Polymer Composites
Role: Module Leader and Lecturer
MSc module in Spring Term
Module website
This module aims to provide you with a deep understanding of a range of advanced topics within the field of polymers and polymer composites. A major emphasis is on understanding how to analyze and design polymer composites as reinforcements for retrofitting or strengthening of concrete structures, and how the properties of composites are related to matrix and reinforcement architecture.
CIVE70070-Assessment, Monitoring and Repair of Structures
Role: Module Leader and Lecturer
MSc module in Spring Term
Module website
This module aims to provide you with a deep understanding of a range of advanced topics on assessment, monitoring and repair of structures. A major emphasis is on understanding the structural health monitoring (SHM) strategies and selecting the most appropriate assessment and repairing methods. This will equip you with the knowledge and skills to assess and monitor structures in service and carry out repairing work when needed.
CIVE70062-Mechanics of Materials
Role: Module Leader and Lecturer
MSc module in Autumn Term
Module website
This module aims to provide you with a clear and thorough presentation of the theory and application of the principles of mechanics of materials. These will be taught based on continuum mechanics, damage theories and strength of materials. This will enable you with the knowledge and skills to predict the behaviour of materials and structures.
Teaching 2
CIVE50009-Structural Design
Role: Lecturer
UG module in Autumn term
Module website
The primary aim of this module is to provide an introduction to the behaviour and design of concrete and steel structures. The module comprises two principal elements:
- Reinforced concrete design.
- Structural steel design.
For both, the basis of structural design is first introduced, followed by an analysis of the behaviour of individual structural elements (beams, columns, etc.), and finally consideration of structural assemblages.
CIVE70009-Civil Engineering Individual Research Project
Role: Project Supervisor
UG final year research project
Module website
In this module you will undertake a specific piece of independent research in the form of a critical review, laboratory- or field-based experimental investigation, modelling/numerical analysis project, or a design-related project. You will learn to formulate a research question, demonstrate technical understanding of the field of engineering around this particular question and apply research methods appropriate for the research objective. Furthermore you will demonstrate your ability to communicate the results to a wider audience by means of a written paper, oral presentation and visual poster.
CIVE70072-Research Project-Materials MSc
Role: Project Supervisor
MSc summer term research project
Module website
This module requires you to undertake a specific piece of independent research in the form of a critical review, laboratory- based experimental investigation, field investigation, modelling/ numerical analysis, or a design-related project. You will learn to formulate a research question, demonstrate deep technical understanding and apply research methods appropriate for the chosen research area. The project will be reported in a research paper written to a high-quality journal standard. Furthermore, you will demonstrate your ability to communicate the results to a wider audience by means of an oral presentation and viva.
