The Network of Excellence in Diabetes was established in 2018 and brings together researchers from across three Imperial Faculties with the goal of gaining a better understanding of the disease process and developing innovative new approaches to treatment.
Key elements are bioinspired engineering, pancreatic islet cell biology, and disease genetics. We aim to provide training in the technologies focussing on the interface between disciplines, linking basic research to clinical practice.
The Diabetes Network - whose researchers are supported by grants from MRC, Wellcome, ERC, Diabetes UK and others - has close ties to affiliates including the Network of Excellence in Nutrition, the Imperial NIHR BRC, Nan Yang Technical University in Singapore, and the Imperial Centre for Diabetes in Abu Dhabi.
