The John Adams Institute for Accelerator Science is a centre of excellence in the UK for advanced and novel accelerator technology, providing expertise, research, development and training in accelerator techniques, and promoting advanced accelerator applications in science and society.

The JAI was created in October 2004 and is a joint venture between the Departments of Physics at the University of Oxford, the Royal Holloway University of LondonImperial College London joined the JAI in 2012, following the decision to include laser accelerator techniques in the JAI's portfolio.

At Imperial College London, our Institute members focus on plasma based particle acceleration in experiment, numerical modeling and theory. It is our goal to explore and understand new acceleration regimes for relativistic beams of electrons, ions and x-rays. It is our ambition to make them relevant for high energy physics, matter at extreme conditions and biomedical applications. Find out more about our research.
