London e-Science Centre
Welcome to the London e-Science Centre (LeSC)
Welcome to the London e-Science Centre (LeSC) based at Imperial College London and associated with the Department of Computing.
The Centre undertakes novel research, applying it to the support scientific communities across Imperial College and beyond. We are involved in a range of e-Science projects covering a wide array of different fields from development of middleware to support e-Science and large-scale scientific processing challenges to application projects supporting end-user domain scientists.
Professor John Darlington leads the Centre with a team of four Co-directors. The Centre focuses on four key high-profile application areas:
- Public Health and Primary Care
- High Energy Physics
- Bioinformatics
- Transport
LeSC began as one of the eight Regional Centres in the EPSRC/DTI e-Science Core Technology Programme, which ran from 2002-2006. In 2005, the activities of LeSC expanded to include those of the Imperial College Internet Centre.
Since the end of the e-Science Programme funding, LeSC has continued to serve as an active e-Science Centre by participating in a variety of UK and international projects.
