integrating data | transforming services
WHAT IS DIGITAL CITY EXCHANGE?
Digital City Exchange is a five-year Digital Economy multi-disciplinary research programme at Imperial College London. Researchers are exploring ways to digitally link utilities and services within a city, enabling new technical and business opportunities.
The programme of research focuses on harnessing next generation digital systems to combine and repurpose city data: ultimately, transforming the planning and use of cities.
WHAT ARE THE ANTICIPATED IMPACTS OF DIGITAL CITY EXCHANGE?
Digital City Exchange promises to revolutionise urban infrastructure – integrating energy, transport, waste and utility resources – generating significant technological, economic and societal impact.
By developing more integrated infrastructure, transport and resources, Digital City Exchange will:
- enhance quality of life in our cities
- maximise the opportunities for new businesses
- enable valuable new services to emerge
WHO FUNDS DIGITAL CITY EXCHANGE?
Digital City Exchange is funded by Research Councils UK’s Digital Economy Programme (EPSRC Grant No. EP/I038837/1). It was awarded £5.9M over the five years and commenced activity in October 2011.
Within the Digital Economy Programme, Research Councils UK also funds three other Digital Economy Hubs, all for five years from October 2009: Horizon (University of Nottingham), SiDE (University of Newcastle) and dot.rural (University of Aberdeen).
