Our offer to you
Salary
The College aims to pay mid to upper quartile rates of pay for its staff against appropriate external comparators wherever possible. We regularly benchmark rates of pay against internal and appropriate external comparators. If you are on an incremental scale you will also receive an automatic increment to your salary on an annual basis up to the cap of your scale, in line with the College’s Principles of pay.
Pension schemes
The College offers three generous pension schemes, USS, SAUL and the NHS Pension Scheme, and the scheme you are eligible for will depend on your post. For SAUL and USS members, pensions can be contributed to via Pension SMART, allowing you to benefit from tax relief on your pension contributions. Find out more about Pensions.
Cost of living review
Imperial operates an annual Pay Review for all staff negotiated with the College Trade Unions, using internal and external benchmarking data.
Promotion and job evaluation
The College is committed to a transparent and fair promotion process and role reviews. There is an annual promotion process for academic staff, and professional, technical and operational staff and learning and teaching staff whose roles have developed in scope and responsibility are able to have their grading reviewed as part of the Job Evaluation process.
Equal pay audits
The College is committed to parity of pay, and operates an annual pay audit to benchmark the salaries of all staff, and address any inconsistencies.
Cycle to Work scheme

Eye tests
If you work at a computer regularly you will be eligible to receive an eye test every two years paid for by the College.
Dentist
The College’s South Kensington campus houses a dental practice, providing NHS and private dental care to College staff.
Well person screening
From age 50+ you will be entitled to a comprehensive well person screening every 2 years, provided by the Colleges’ Occupational Health department.
Holiday entitlement
Staff are able to refresh and relax, with a generous holiday allowance of 25 days per annum (pro rata for part-time staff), this is in addition to UK Bank Holidays and 6/7 College closure days per year at Christmas and Easter.
Flexible working
The College is committed to providing a supportive environment, and is a Top 30 Employer for Working Families. To support your work/life balance all flexible working requests will be considered.
Additional holiday
The College has an Additional Holiday Leave scheme which allows you to buy, up to 10 days extra leave per year, subject to departmental agreement. By doing so you take an equivalent reduction in your salary over either 12 or 6 months, depending on the time of year leave is purchased.
Sports facilities
Imperial is London’s top sporting university, with many facilities and clubs spread across its different campuses. As a member of staff, you can benefit from discounted membership at the College’s state-of-the-art gyms. Membership of Ethos, South Kensington’s flagship gym, starts at just £26 per month. Confidential care
College staff and members of their household can get free professional and confidential help from Confidential Care, the College's Employee Assistance Provider, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Family leave
We are a Top 30 Employer for Working Families. Knowing the importance of good work/life balance the College provides extensive family leave and support. Including enhanced maternity provision (for eligible staff) at 18 weeks full-pay, two-week maternity/paternity support leave for partners and generous shared parental leave and adoption and surrogacy leave. Childcare on campus
The Early Years Education Centre is the College’s ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rated nursery, located at the South Kensington Campus. The EYEC caters for children of six months to five years and has capacity for 140 children, and is recommended for Chelsea and Westminster Hospital staff also.
My Family Care
You and your family will be supported through , who can organise emergency childcare, school holiday cover and backup adult and eldercare on your behalf. You will also have access to webinars, and access to work and family experts directly through the My Family Care website.
Learning and development
The College's People and Organisational Development offers a comprehensive range of training and development support for staff at all stages of their careers, including in-house courses and coaching and talent development programmes.
Study loan scheme
College staff can benefit from an interest free loan to help with the costs of part-time study while employed by the College. The aim is to help staff engage in further study that will enhance their career but falls outside of the provision available within the College. The College has an arrangement with the Charities Aid Foundation to allow you to make donations to named charities, by automatic deductions from salary. Payments up to a certain amount are tax free. Find out more.
