We are delighted to introduce iCHEM (Inclusive Chemistry)!
iCHEM aims to make the field of chemistry more accessible and welcoming to individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those who have traditionally been underrepresented in the field.
This includes but is not limited to people of different genders, races, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, abilities, and sexual orientations. iCHEM seeks to create an environment in which all individuals are treated with respect and provided with equal opportunities to participate and succeed in the study and practice of chemistry.
iCHEM aims to promote diversity, equality, and inclusion in the field by developing initiatives that:
1. Increase diversity in the chemistry workforce by recruiting and retaining individuals from underrepresented groups.
2. Create a welcoming and supportive environment that values the perspectives and contributions of all members.
3. Eliminate biases, discrimination, and barriers that may exist within the field of chemistry.
4. Provide resources and support for individuals from underrepresented groups to help them succeed in their academic and professional pursuits in chemistry.
5. Incorporate diverse perspectives into research, teaching, and the broader chemistry community.
iCHEM aims to represent the 'Chemistry focused' part of the broader movement to make STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields more inclusive and representative.
