Introduction to student finance in 2022/23

What is it?

The Maintenance Loan is designed to support full-time Home students with their living costs e.g. food, rent and travel.

Find out more about who qualifies for financial support from the Government on the gov.uk website.

How much can I get?

The amount you can get depends on:

  • where you live
  • where you study
  • your household income

The maximum loan amount in 2024-25 for students living away from home in London is £13,348.

See the gov.uk website for more information.

You can use the Government's student finance calculator to estimate how much Maintenance Loan you’ll get – it will also tell you if you’re eligible for extra grants or allowances.
