Local Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC)
A Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) is a special facility where you can receive immediate help and support if you have been raped or sexually assaulted. This includes access to a forensic medical examination, which is carried out by an experienced and qualified doctor, and the opportunity to speak to the Police about what has happened, if you wish to do so.
There are three SARCs in London that are run by The Havens and they cover the whole of the city. The Havens are a service for anyone of any gender, age, or sexuality who has been raped or sexually assaulted within the last 12 months. It is free and confidential and offers different services under one roof, including: special support for young people, examinations to collect evidence of rape or sexual assault and testing for sexually transmitted infections and HIV.
You can make an appointment at the Haven that is best for you:
- Camberwell Haven, near to King’s College Hospital (south)
- Whitechapel Haven, near to Royal London Hospital (east)
- Paddington Haven, near to St Mary’s Hospital (west)
Each is a self-contained centre, fully equipped to provide all the help you need. Everyone you meet will be experienced in helping people who’ve been raped or sexual assaulted. They will believe and support you, and treat you with respect.
They are available to help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You don’t have to be referred or speak to the police to see them but you must call them first to make an appointment: 020 3299 6900.
