Jill Crowther (MSc Agriculture Sciences 2003)
Jill Crowther plays a vital role in encouraging and inspiring the next generation of Imperial alumni. She offers advice and support to current students as a way of showing her appreciation for her own mentors.
"I am an environmental and social development specialist at a multi-lateral organisation. I get to look at projects and make sure they are environmentally and socially sustainable. I get to travel the world and meet some incredible people. It really is a dream come true. I am a proud alumnus because Imperial is one of the best universities in the world and is at the forefront of research and knowledge. People know a lot about the great work Imperial does and I feel honoured that I am part of that.
I decided to volunteer as I have had many mentors during my career and would not be where I am today without their inspiration, or the fact that they were prepared to listen to my sometimes crazy ideas. They were all very kind and offered their time without question, so when I had gained some more experience, I felt it was time to give back.
I love it when my mentees have an idea or plan and they let me know that it has worked out well and they have learned so much from it. Students get to do some really exciting things these days so I love hearing about their adventures. It makes me want to be a student again!"
