New Wi-Fi coming to Imperial

The Imperial-WPA network is for the university members only. To connect to it, follow the appropriate instructions on this page for your device and operating system.
Desktop or laptop computer
To connect to the Imperial-WPA WiFi network using a Windows machine, follow these steps:
- Click on the network icon in your system tray (usually between the charging icon and the volume icon) in the bottom right-hand corner of your screen.
- Make sure the Wi-Fi icon is set to on.
- Choose Imperial-WPA from the list of networks that appears
- Click Connect if you receive the message 'Windows cannot verify the server's identity'
- Enter your Imperial username and password when prompted and click OK.
You should now be connected to the Imperial-WPA network.
To connect to the Imperial-WPA network using a Mac, follow these steps:
- Click on the Wi-Fi icon and make sure it is switched on
- Choose the Imperial-WPA network from the list
- Enter your Imperial username and password in the login dialog box
- Tick the Remember this network box
- Click Continue again to finish
You should now be connected to the Imperial-WPA network.
To connect to the Imperial-WPA network using NetworkManager on a Linux machine, follow these steps:
- Click on the Network Manager icon
- Ensure that enable wireless and enable network are ticked on the dropdown menu
- Click on Imperial-WPA from the list in the network manager
- Enter your Imperial username and password
- Click on Connect
You are now connected to the Imperial-WPA network.
Mobile device
To connect to the Imperial-WPA Wi-Fi network using an iOS or iPadOS device, follow these steps:
- Tap on the Settings icon
- Tap on the Wi-Fi section
- Slide the Wi-Fi button to ON and wait for the list of networks to appear
- Tap Imperial-WPA
- Enter your Imperial username and password
- Tap the Accept button
When you've successfully connected you'll see Imperial-WPA displayed in blue with a tick next to it.
To connect to the Imperial-WPA network using an Android device, follow these steps:
- Go to your device Settings
- Select Wi-Fi (or Wireless & networks, then Wi-Fi)
- Set Wi-Fi to on
- Select Imperial-WPA
- Ensure the EAP Method is set to PEAP
- Ensure the Phase 2 authentication to MSCHAPV2
- Under CA Certificate select Use system certificates
- In the Domain field enter wireless.ic.ac.uk
- In the Identity field, enter your Imperial username
- In the password field, enter your Imperial password
NOTE: For some Android devices you need to click advanced to see Phase 2 authentication.
NOTE: Some Android devices do not have 'system certificates' as an option. Instead, they have 'do not validate'. In this case please use eduroam CAT to provision a wireless profile on eduroam.To connect to the Imperial-WPA network using a Windows mobile device, follow these steps:
- Click on the small arrow in the top right hand corner of your home screen
- Scroll down and tap the Settings menu button
- Tap the Wi-Fi menu
- Ensure that the WiFi networking slider is set to On
- Select Imperial-WPA from the available Wi-Fi networks
- Enter your Imperial username and password
- Tap Done
- Tap Connect
When the Wi-Fi menu displays the word Connected under the Imperial-WPA network, you are connected.
Generic WiFi settings
Imperial-WPA is a WPA2-Enterprise network with AES encryption.
- Authentication: PEAP-MSCHAPv2 or EAP/TTLS authentication, with college username and password
- Server Certificate CN: wireless.ic.ac.uk
- Server CA: The server certificate is issued by DigiCert Global Root CA. Download the certificate here.
