How accessible the website is
Parts of this website are not fully accessible. For example:
- FeedbackFruits do not offer site maps and to assert the interaction is predictable and page sections are always mentioned in skip-nav menu for discoverability.
- Does not contain motion actuation
- Some status messages on actions will not be read by screen readers, e.g. accept, delete, post.
- Responsive design meaning the display of all content is optimised for all screen sizes. “We practice responsive design as a first principle on product development and our design language. One of the consequences is that nearly all our products are compatible with narrow screens such as tablet and smartphones. Some advanced user cases like text-selection based document annotation are not supported on mobile.”
- Contrast support “Yes. This feature is available in the user's preferences. The preferences are always available through the 3-dot-button in the top right, and also the skip-nav menu for easy discoverability.” “Contrast setting are available in the entire Feedback Fruits tool suite by selecting ‘Preferences’ from the three-dot menu at the top right-hand corner of all activities. Within the Preferences menu contract can be increased between 2 and 5fold. Most students will prefer the OS-based contract tools because they work ubiquitously, and hence remove the need to enable it per website.”
- Text sizing “…all text within the tool can be enlarged through the + and - button that activate the native zoom functionality with your chosen browser. Documents uploaded into Interactive Document, Comprehension, Assignment Review, Self-Assessment, and Peer Review will also enlarge as a result. This is by virtue of practicing responsive design which also results in mobile compatibility.”
- Keyboard accessible “Students can use a keyboard (Tabbing) or screen reader to navigate Feedback Fruits activities. We support nearly all fundamental actions that are presented to regular users.”
- Keyboard shortcuts “…a wide variety of shortcuts are available for all frequent actions. An overview can be brought up at any time by pressing eth “?” key (as per emerging industry convention) within Feedback Fruits. Alternatively, keyboard shortcuts can be accessed by selecting ‘Preferences’ from the three-dot menu at the top right-hand corner of all activities.”
- Skip-nave or skip-to-content menus “Mostly this is part of the standard WCAG 2.0 Level A specification, criterion 2.4.1 (Bypass Blocks). Support varies per tool, hence see the Tool overview” for details.”
- Screen reader compatibility “…this varies per tool …and will be improved. We support all OS-based screen readers and have done most development and testing with MacOS Voice Over. Browser-plugin based screen readers also work, thought their quality varies and hence we do not recommend them.”
- Screen readers will announce loading pages, this is set withing ‘Preferences’, “…‘Read out page loading status’ can be toggled on/off within the Preferences menu. Screen readers will read out the loading state when a page takes longer than 1s to load.”
- Immersive Reader “we recommend OS-based or browser-plugin based solutions.”
- Video closed captions can be added
What we do about known issues
Feedback Fruits iteratively work towards a goal of >95% compliance to WCAG 2.2 AA level. You can find the results of internal testing in FeedbackFruits accessibility WCAG compliance evaluation, April 2022 .xlsx.
Technical information about this website’s accessibility
Imperial College London is committed to making its digital platforms accessible in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
The Feedback Fruits website/app is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the known issues listed below.
Non accessible content
Please find the details of noncompliant parts under the Noncompliance section below.
Noncompliance with the accessibility regulations
WCAG 2.0 AA:
1.2.5 Audio Description (Pre-recorded): Close captions or audio descriptions are not available on pre-recorded videos.
1.4.3 Contrast: Regular text is compliant. Only "disabled state" text currently doesn't comply, but with use of high-contrast browser addons it does comply. We're looking at adding an option in our accessibility settings that will make all text on light backgrounds (vast majority of text) meet contrast standards.
2.4.5 Multiple Ways: Could be improved. Feedback Fruits don't offer sitemaps. However, predictable interaction design and in-app user onboarding/education is present. Important functions and page sections are also always mentioned in the skip-nav menu for discoverability.
WCAG 2.1 A
2.1.4 Character Key shortcuts: Feedback Fruits offer single character shortcuts; however, these currently can't be turned off or remapped. Fix planned for 2022.
WCAG 2.1 AA
1.4.1.3 Status messages: Important actions are mostly all confirmed by live reading the corresponding snack bar that they produce. Some (especially non-critical) actions are not yet.
Some documents and content are exempt from the regulations (such as live video content and PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services), so we do not currently have any plans to make them accessible. But if you need to access information in one of these document types, you can contact us and ask for an alternative format.

How we test this website
This website was last tested for accessibility compliance in April 2022, and these tests have been carried out by Feedback Fruits internally. Feedback Fruits used Manual Testing carried out by their internal accessibility team.
The testing was done against WCAG 2.0, WCAG 2.1 and WCAG 2.2 criteria. Full Results can be found in FeedbackFruits accessibility WCAG compliance evaluation, April 2022 .xlsx.
