Introductory Medical Statistics

 

The Introductory Medical Statistics Course introduces you to basic statistical concepts. The course is run by statisticians and epidemiologists based at the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI).

It is suitable for: Doctors (including trainee grades), nurses, allied health professionals, clinical research fellows and postgraduate students.

Registration fees:

  • £120 – MSc/PhD students
  • £190 – academic/NHS

The course will be held on Microsoft Teams, and recordings of the two half days sent to delegates the following week.

We will send delegates the slides about a week before the event.

NB:

  • If you are applying for funding or study leave but do not yet have the funds, or know if you will get study leave, then please contact us, and we will reserve a place for you on the course. 
  • Imperial College staff and students can pay via internal journal/transfer – please contact me if you wish to do this (you don’t then need to book online). 
  • Places are offered on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis, and we can accommodate 45 delegates only. 

Learning Objectives

The learning objectives, as submitted to the Royal College of Physicians (who have supplied 6 CPD points), are as follows:

  • Develop skills in and understanding of epidemiological study design (of various types), including identification and description of different data types, and selection of appropriate statistical tests.
  • Develop skills in and understanding of selection of appropriate statistical tests.
  • Understand the principles behind, and applications of, various forms of regression analysis, including survival analysis.

The course includes some ‘classroom exercises’ held via Mentimeter, whereby we invite the attendees to submit their answers to certain questions.  We also have Q&A at the end of each half day.

We will supply a PDF attendance certificate after the event.
