Wheelchair access
All our libraries are wheelchair accessible, but some routes are complicated. If you are unsure, contact the relevant library before visiting.
Hearing loops
Our enquiry desks have portable hearing loops, please ask if you need assistance
Your library team is here to provide the best possible support for all students and to ensure that everyone can use our services.
You can contact:
- Your librarian - every department has a named librarian who will be happy to introduce library services, advise on specific resources and discuss your needs
- Our libraries - for help with borrowing and requesting books, registration and general enquiries
Services
If you are registered with the College Disability Advisory Service you will automatically have:
- longer book loans - extended from 1 to 3 weeks
- book fetching - you can request items for collection, to pick up at your chosen library
- access to priority desks at the Abdus Salam Library
We can also arrange:
- ID card access to the Assistive Technology Room at the Abdus Salam Library
- accessible textbooks - if library resources do not meet your needs it may be possible for us to provide material in an alternative format. Contact your librarian for more information.
- coloured paper and screen overlays - just ask library staff
Priority desks
Students registered with the Disability Advisory Service can book a priority desk at the Abdus Salam Library.
Bookable desks include all height-adjustable desks on levels 2 and 3 (27 in total) and a group of 6 desks to the right of the door into the Wolfson Suite on level 1, one is height adjustable. Each desk has a sticker indicating that it is a priority desk and that the user may be asked to give up the space to someone with a booking.
Assistive Technology Room
The Assistive Technology Room on level 1 at the Abdus Salam Library offers a quiet study space for students registered with the Disability Advisory Service. You can find the room to the right as you pass through the entry gates.
To request access contact the Disability Advisory Service or Library Services. The room is open Monday to Friday and Sunday 08.30 - 22.00, Saturday 10.00 - 22.00.
Bookings are not required, however each desk can be booked and priority should be given to students with a booking.
Features of the room include:
- a variety of study spaces, including 4 height-adjustable desks
- 3 PCs with larger screens
- 1 PC with extra large, curved screen
- noise cancelling headphones
- accessible printer-copier
- soft lighting
- screen overlays and coloured paper
