Imperial College Sustainability Week 2021
The Energy Challenge: Building a Sustainable Energy Future
How can we meet the world’s growing demand for energy without harming our planet? What technologies and materials will be needed? And what role will energy consumers play in the clean energy transition? Join us for this special Sustainability Week event as we delve into the challenge of building a sustainable energy future with our panel of Imperial College energy experts. From sustainable batteries to energy systems modelling, we’ll be exploring the Imperial research that’s helping to make a greener future possible. Get involved in the conversation by submitting your own questions and comments for the panel.
Speakers
Professor Nilay Shah is Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London and a Professor of Process Systems Engineering at the Centre for Process Systems Engineering (CPSE). His research interests include the design and analysis of energy systems and he is co-investigator on the Integrated Development of Low Carbon Energy Systems (IDLES) programme, a five-year research programme aiming to build a modelling tool that can indicate optimal forms of future integrated energy systems.
Professor Magda Tititrici is Professor of Sustainable Energy Materials at the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College. Her research interests involve sustainable materials with a focus on carbon and carbon hybrids produced via hydrothermal processes, waste recycling into advance products, avoidance of critical elements in renewable energy technologies and the development of truly sustainable clean energy storage.
Dr Madeleine Morris is a Research Associate at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and the Environment, working within the Energy Revolution Research Consortium on the policy, regulation and innovation frameworks that will support smart, low-carbon energy systems. The EnergyREV team is working on producing rapid evidence assessments of the policy and regulatory landscape of the GB energy system through the lens of smart local energy systems.
Chair:
Professor Anna Korre is Co-Director of Energy Futures Lab, Imperial’s global energy institute, and Professor of Environmental Engineering in the Department of Earth Science & Engineering. Her research focus is in the areas of modelling risk and uncertainty and the environmental and life cycle assessment of engineering systems.
Sustainability Week
Imperial College London and the Imperial College Union have teamed up to host a week-long celebration of sustainability from 15-19 February. Join us for five days of panel discussions, interactive online events and social media takeovers on everything from energy and waste to sustainable food and active travel. Find out how Imperial College researchers are helping to build a greener, more sustainable world and learn how you too can get involved!
