RRI 2022

There is a growing awareness that we need to think carefully about the kinds of future we use science and technology to build. History shows us that it is not enough to allow innovators to pursue their interests and hope for the best. However, it is difficult to precisely predict how science, technology and society will change over time; they are inherently uncertain.

Recognising this challenge, many research funders have supported development of the concept of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). This concept offers a scaffold for democratic societies to manage uncertainty associated with science, technology and innovation by bringing the social, political and environmental contexts of science into the research process itself.

During this four-day retreat, students will gain understanding of the varied concepts of RRI and sustainability:

  1. Introducing RRI
  2. Critically engaging with RRI in real world contexts
  3. Connect, consult and collaborate exercise
  4. Responsible engagement
  5. Research ethics
  6. Responsible research communication
