A perspective projection of a dodecahedral tessellation in H3. Four dodecahedra meet at each edge, and eight meet at each vertex, like the cubes of a cubic tessellation in E3.

Title: Minimal Model Program

Speaker: Thamarai Valli Venkatachalam

Abstract: In algebraic geometry, two varieties are said to be birationally equivalent if they have isomorphic open subsets. The Minimal Model Program (MMP) provides us with a systematic approach for obtaining the “minimal” representative/model in the birational equivalence class of an algebraic variety. In one of the previous talks in this seminar series, we saw the MMP for surfaces. In this talk, we will see how we can extend the MMP for surfaces to higher dimensions. If time permits, we can work out an example as well.

Some snacks will be provided before and after the talk.
