Future of Information Technology

Information has become one of the most important resources in modern society, and the communication and processing of this information is now widely acknowledged to be a critical part of daily life. Developments at the forefront of information technology, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, neuromorphic computing, quantum computing and edge computing, are the subjects of intense speculation and popular debate.

To present his vision on the ‘Future of Information Technology’, Imperial College is excited to welcome Rene Haas, CEO of ARM Holdings. ARM is one of the most well-known computer architecture companies in the world: Having built its reputation in RISC processing units, ARM technologies are now used in virtually all modern smartphone devices.

Following the main presentation will be a fireside discussion between Rene Haas and Myungshik Kim, Professor at Imperial working on Quantum Computing. This chat will cover a wide range of topics, including the future potential of AI and how this might impact different industries, the role of the semiconductor industry, and could even get into (for those entrepreneurial spirits) the experiences of being a CEO.

The event is jointly organised by the Departments of Physics, Mathematics, Computing and Electrical Engineering and Business Schools at Imperial College.
