This event is part of the Friday Forums, a series of events consisting of a panel followed by an audience discussion. This Friday Forum is less a debate about the religion-science interface, more an exploration of a simple idea: faith is a vital resource for both science and religion. How do scientists keep believing, even when the evidence falters and the pace slackens? For both science and religion, what is the role of ‘not knowing’? With science communication now a central aspect of the research identity, how should science-in-public build relations with religion? And what do we do when, as religious people or as scientists, we seem to lose our faith? In the last of our Friday Forums this year Imperial’s provost Ian Walmsley, and leading Anglican priest Mark Oakley, will debate the role of the known, and the unknown, in their work.
