Title: Introduction to Higgs bundles and the Hitchin system

Abstract: Higgs bundles on curves were introduced by Nigel Hitchin in 1987 and have attracted great attention since then. In this talk, I will give an elementary introduction to Higgs bundles and the Hitchin integrable system, focusing on the spectral curve construction and the geometry of the moduli space of Higgs bundles.

Some snacks will be provided before and after the talk.
