David Foo MSc 2020
Chuan Fong (David) Foo obtained an undergraduate first-class MEng degree in Civil Engineering from University of Nottingham (Malaysia Campus) in 2019. With a strong passion in geotechnics, he then attended MSc Soil Mechanics at Imperial College London and graduated with distinction in 2020. David was awarded the ACES Prize for his dissertation titled “An investigation into the behaviour of embedded retaining walls”, where he worked closely with renowned Imperial researchers and geotechnical engineer from Arup in back-analysing post-construction monitoring data of two embedded walls in London Clay. His dissertation was also highly commended at the annual 2020 BGA Masters Prize. Upon completing his MSc, David joined AECOM Ground Engineering team at the Basingstoke office as a graduate engineer. He had since worked on a wide range of projects, particularly in the Maritime, Water and Infrastructure sectors, involving the design of slopes, shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls, embankments, soil nails and shafts. In 2023, David joined Arup London geotechnics team as geotechnical engineer to pursue his interest in deep excavations and foundation reuse projects.
