DIAMONDS is an EU Horizon2020 project to develop a molecular test to rapidly diagnose serious infectious and inflammatory diseases using RNA-personalised molecular signatures. The DIAMONDS network, which spans 28 institutions and 13 countries, focuses on the development of new molecular diagnostic tests for rapid diagnosis of common infectious bacterial diseases, as well as viral and inflammatory diseases.
Their molecular diagnostics approaches are based on findings from previous work, which showed that common diseases are characterised by unique gene signatures: patterns of genes being switched on and off. By building a data library of gene signatures of common inflammatory and infectious diseases (e.g., TB and Kawasaki disease) and incorporating these into new diagnostics platforms, DIAMONDS aims to develop rapid (<2 hour) diagnostics tools that will transform patient care.
