The Digital Diagnostics for Africa Network was established in 2020 and funded by the UKRI Global Challenge Research Challenge Fund. It is an international and interdisciplinary community of experts strongly interested in developing innovative digital diagnostics to tackle diseases and transform healthcare in Africa.
The Network brings together appropriate expertise to develop a strategy for innovative digital diagnostics that address health needs specific to different regions of Africa. Digital diagnostics will allow African countries to simultaneously improve the outcomes of common medical problems like childhood febrile illness while also facilitating public health efforts against high-burden infectious disease problems like malaria, tuberculosis, and antimicrobial resistance.
The researchers have developed an innovative digital diagnostic platform called Lacewing, which we propose as a solution for developing digital molecular diagnostics for Africa. The Network is focused on designing a roadmap required for co-design, development, and implementation of new diagnostics to improve the health of some of the poorest communities in the world.
