Quantum computers have the potential to revolutionise heavily-demanding information processing in science and industry. During the last decade, great strides have been made in the design and manufacture of quantum hardware allowing the first experimental demonstrations of quantum advantage, where a quantum computer solves a problem that is impossible for a classical computer within a feasible amount of time. 

This has created intense interest, attracting researchers, businesses and investment from a broad range of disciplines and domains. The trans-disciplinary expertise of Imperial’s quantum algorithms community and our existing industrial partnerships present an opportunity to define the problems that can be addressed in practice, benchmark the near-term hardware capabilities and match these to industry needs, becoming a trusted partner for businesses seeking to explore applications of quantum computing. 

These areas overlap strongly with interest across the College in applying quantum computing in finance, fluid dynamics, high-energy physics, molecular and materials simulations alongside leaders in theoretical and algorithm developments in quantum computing.
