Imperial College London's Alumni Mentoring scheme provides current students with an opportunity to connect with and be mentored by an experienced Imperial alumnus, working in a chosen field of interest or related profession.

The aim of the scheme is to support student's personal and professional growth through 1:1 support and guidance over a period of 5 months.

Through completing our scheme, mentees have the opportunity to develop their career insights, gain a deeper understanding of the graduate labour market, increase their career clarity and build their professional networks.

Our Alumni Mentors have all graduated from Imperial within the last 20 years, with experience and careers across a wide range of sectors.

Mentoring partnerships for 2024/25 will officially run from November - March 2025.

If you have any questions about the Alumni Mentoring Scheme or application process, please contact the team on mentoring@imperial.ac.uk.

Application process

Step one - Review Alumni Mentor Directory

Access the latest Alumni Directory to review the available mentors for the 2024/25 Academic Year. Students are encouraged to review all of the available mentor profiles and make note of the profiles that interest them before starting an application.

Step two - Submit Application Form

Complete the online application form. In this form, students are required to consider what goals they would like to work on with a mentor over the 5 month period available. The form will then ask you to choose up to three Mentors from the Alumni Mentor Directory in order of preference and detail a motivation to be matched to each profile. The Alumni Mentoring Scheme is a competitive process with limited places and a strong application will have showcased your commitment to your career development and a detailed interest in each chosen mentor profile. Applications for 2024-25 have now closed.

Step three - The Matching Process

All applications are reviewed by the Careers and Placements Team after applications close in autumn term. The team try to make as many mentoring matches as possible based on students application preferences and the available mentor capacity. Please note: although we try to make as many suitable matches as possible, we cannot always guarantee a place on the scheme.

Step four - Connect with your Mentor

Successfully matched students are invited to attend an online induction event in November. Once attended, students will be sent their mentor's contact details to introduce themselves and begin scheduling their first mentoring session. It is expected that mentor's and mentees will have a total of 4 mandatory engagement points over the duration of the scheme (November - March). These are typically 1 hour video calls roughly once per month.
