A speaker presenting to a group of students at a poster event

Are you coming up to an assessed viva, an assessed elevator pitch, an assessed project presentation or are you simply keen to work on your public speaking skills

Our ‘Speaking with Impact in STEMM’ sessions are a structured programme to enhance your skills and boost your confidence in preparation for any presentation.

We are running 6 weekly sessions in the summer term. These are 50-minute on-campus sessions.

They are grouped into two blocks of three, but you are free to attend one, some or all sessions.

  1. Engaging your audience
  2. Using your voice
  3. Rehearse your presentation in our ‘Café Scientifique’

  1. Building your narrative
  2. Guiding your audience
  3. Rehearse your presentation in our ‘Stand up and speak’ session

In sessions 1, 2, 4 and 5, you will:

  • analyse strategies and language model speakers use to communicate content clearly, purposefully and logically
  • have focused practice opportunities to apply strategies looked at in the session
  • receive feedback from your peers and the teacher

In sessions 3 and 6, you will:

  • deliver a pre-prepared presentation at least twice to a mixed-cohort audience
  • receive feedback from your peers and the teacher

When and where are these sessions?

The Business School requests that their students and staff contact their Global Skills Development team about their equivalent to the Centre for Academic English provision.
