Course Overview

The course focuses on the spoken language, and aims to equip you with the skills needed for everyday situations in a French-speaking environment. You will, for example, learn how to introduce yourself and others, describe your home and daily activities, shop for and order food and drink, make travel arrangements, ask questions, make simple descriptions, express opinions, and acquire a good basic vocabulary.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be better prepared to:

  • understand the gendering of nouns, conjugate some of most common verbs in the present tense and use them together with nouns, articles, adjectives and prepositions in simple sentences
  • use the future and perfect tenses at a basic level
  • Pronounce French words correctly and engage in basic conversation with other French speakers.

Teaching and Learning Approach

The teaching and learning approach for this course combines tutor-led instruction, group activities, and independent study supported by individual guidance from the tutor. Classes are conducted face-to-face in a classroom setting and utilise diverse teaching methods, including presentations, multimedia resources, class discussions, and interactive activities.
