Course Overview

This course is mainly focused on the “survival level” of conversation and the basic grammar necessary for that level, together with the introduction to Japanese customs and life in Japan. The first set of Japanese scripts, called Hiragana, is gradually taught so that you can expect to be able to read and write Hiragana script by the end of the course.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be better prepared to:

• read and write Hiragana script
• understand the basic principles of Japanese sentence structure
• begin to form the sounds of Japanese pronounciation
• understand key verbs, in the present and past tenses of verbs, as well as nouns and adjectives.
