Course Overview

This course aims to further advance your language skills in the four key skills of speaking, listening, writing and listening, with particular emphasis on the development of oral proficiency which can be deployed in a wide range of life contexts and to discuss topical issues.

You will have proficiency in basic Kanji and we will learn and use more of this during the course through group learning, individual study and role play.

By the end of the course, you will be able to engage in more specific and detailed situations on a variety of topics, including business events, trip planning and contemporary social issues, using more complex grammatical structures and expressions.

Required Previous Experience (if any)

You should have completed the imperial after:hours Japanese 4 course or have equivalent experience.

Required Reading Material or Special Equipment Needed (if any)

None required.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be better prepared to:

  • communicate effectively at a near-advanced level in familiar everyday and unfamiliar contexts
  • produce and respond to texts using grammar and vocabulary at a near-advanced level
  • Demonstrate a high level cultural understanding and intercultural awareness related to Japan and diverse aspects of its cultures.

Teaching and Learning Approach

The teaching and learning approach for this course combines tutor-led instruction, group activities, and independent study supported by individual guidance from the tutor. Classes are conducted face-to-face in a classroom setting and utilise diverse teaching methods, including presentations, multimedia resources, class discussions, and interactive activities.
