Course Overview
This post-beginners course is intended for those who have taken our Beginner’s course (or similar), and have mastered the four tones. You should be able to handle simple structures and now wish to immerse yourself in studying Mandarin Chinese in greater depth. After revision of basic structures, students will move on to study grammatical structures of greater complexity and a wider range of speech patterns. You can expect to develop your oral and listening skills, but also learn further basics of the Chinese script.
Required Previous Experience (if any)
You should have taken our Mandarin Chinese 1 course or possess equivalent experience.
Required Reading Material or Special Equipment Needed (if any)
None required.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course you will be better prepared to:
- engage at a basic level in face-to-face exchanges in Chinese to meet and greet other people, and introduce and talk about yourself
- understand the Mandarin Chinese numerical system
- identify and use some verbs in the present, past and future tense
- read and write basic Mandarin Chinese script.
Teaching and Learning Approach
The teaching and learning approach for this course combines tutor-led instruction, group activities, and independent study supported by individual guidance from the tutor. Classes are conducted face-to-face in a classroom setting and utilise diverse teaching methods, including presentations, multimedia resources, class discussions, and interactive activities. These methods are selected to engage students, accommodate varied learning styles, and support effective understanding of the subject matter.
