Course Overview
This course aims to consolidate and enhance existing skills in Mandarin Chinese. It is designed to develop spoken and written language skills across a variety of contexts by introducing authentic, everyday situations that facilitate the use of more diverse and complex grammar and expressions. It will cover a broader range of grammar, expressions and vocabulary, enabling students to gain a deeper understanding of modern Chinese language and society in both informal and formal settings.
By the end of the course, you will be able to engage in more specific and detailed situations on a variety of topics, including business events, trip planning and contemporary social issues, using more complex grammatical structures and expressions.
Required Previous Experience (if any)
You should have completed the imperial after:hours Mandarin Chinese 3 course or have equivalent experience.
Required Reading Material or Special Equipment Needed (if any)
None required.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course you will be better prepared to:
- use and understand expressions related to giving and understanding directions and navigating transportation;
- request information and give advice;
- Describe situations such as symptoms in a doctor’s office;
- use –le and –guo to talk about past events and experiences;
- use verb complements (resultative, potential, etc.) with confidence.
