Exploring the Self through Art, image and Symbolism brings together a group of like-minded participants, led by Annette Crump and Helen Aitchinson, in a warm, welcoming space, to explore the surprising depths and profound interpretations of multicultural Fairy Tales.

Drawing upon Jungian Psychoanalytic perspectives, cultural myths, and world histories to establish a broad context of values and interpretations of symbols as we discover the steps within any journey of self-discovery and transformation.  Working with Jungian Archetypes and the notion of ‘Self’, we will begin to visualise and illustrate aspects of our own Life Story.

Tapping into popular culture, storytelling, and brief meditations as a means of priming the unconscious mind we will then move our focus in to creating artwork which can support the expression of thoughts and feelings as we meditate upon our journey in life.

Through group discussion and sharing of experiences we can celebrate both the diversity and similarities of our human experience – with compassion and understanding.  We can consider how to attend to our experience and relationship with ourselves.

Please do note, this is not an art therapy session, it is about exploring how art therapists use art to explore aspects of the mind and facilitate self-expression and self-development.
