In this course we are invited to join Liva Donina in creating our own marbled paper patterns.

Paper marbling is one of the most beautiful and satisfying of craft forms.  Its history goes back over a thousand years, with references found in ancient Chinese manuscripts, although it is thought by many to have originated in Japan. It was also known to the mediaeval Arab, Persian and Turkish world, and entered Western Europe in the seventeenth century. In Europe marbled paper was often used as decorative papers on the inside of book covers and it is still used in high-end bookbinding in this way today.

But marbled papers are an art form in their own right, and the beautiful patterns that can be created are not only lovely to look at from an aesthetic point of view, but make great greetings cards and unique wrapping papers, draw liners and more.

Whatever you decide to do with your marbled paper designs from this one day school, you will be learning a very special craft form, and have an opportunity to learn from Leva about how she and her colleagues at Imperial are using this ancient craft form to develop almost unbreakable forms of encryption for industry and commerce.

Suited for beginners and those with prior experience, this course has a maximum capacity of 12 students.
