Led by Professor Gary Cook and Dr Tatiana Codreanu, Introduction to Business Studies is an entry-level course looking at the world of business for the uninitiated.

From the world of a local artisan bakery, to start-up tech companies, to co-operatives, to global corporations, we live in a world dominated by businesses and systems developed in business.

Over the course of two terms we will discover different types of business, explore how businesses work, and investigate basic aspects of business law and how people start, plan, manage and organise businesses. The course will look at how different forms of business work, such as sole traders, partnerships, private and public limited companies and co-operatives.

Throughout the course you will discover not only how businesses work in themselves but also how they impact on other aspects of society, from the way local charities and school governance boards are organised, to the systems employed by local and national government.

Whether you're aspiring to start a business, launch a product, or author a book, this opportunity is invaluable for professionals in business, media, arts, education, politics, or any domain where business acumen and communication are vital.

This course is aimed at complete beginners, so you do not need a background in business to take part.
