Previous experience: Designed for those who have completed our Korean 1 courses (Parts 1 and 2, totaling 40 contact hours) or equivalent experience, this course is suitable for those wishing to gain further competence in the language. If unsure of your proficiency level please do seek level advice from our Korean Coordinator prior to enrolment
This course is designed to elevate students' language skills to post-beginners level. Focusing on more complex grammar, vocabulary expansion, and deeper cultural insights, the course allows students to engage in more complex conversations, enhance their writing skills, and gain a better understanding of Korean society and culture.
The main grammatical areas covered are:
- Noun/adjective/verb-modifying forms;
- Use of relative clauses and conjunctions;
- Detailed study of Korean honorifics and speech levels;
- Advanced vocabulary for describing events;
- Vocabulary and expressions related to work, professions, and academic life etc.
By the end of the course, students will be able to engage in detailed spoken and written everyday conversations on various topics including daily life, hobbies, current events and contemporary social issues using more complex grammatical structures and expressions.

Dr Hyejin Jang started teaching Korean as a foreign language in 2004. Having since taught many students with very diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds at numerous Asian and European institutes has led her to gain an interest in culture learning in the context of foreign language education. Presently working as Coordinator of Korean at Imperial College London and Korean language lecturer at SOAS, Hyejin's main research interests include second language acquisition, culture learning, intercultural development and foreign perception of contemporary Korean culture.

Late enrolment
It is possible to enrol on many of our adult education courses after the course has already started. For non-language courses this is subject entirely to agreement by the tutor. For language courses it is subject to agreement by the language coordinator conducting level assessment. If you want to join a course late do bear in mind there might be work you will need to catch up on, particularly in language courses.

Enrolment and payment run through the Imperial College eStore. When enrolling:
- Do check on the drop down menu above called "Course Fees and Rate Categories" to see if you are eligible for a discounted rate and also do make sure you select that rate when enrolling on the eStore
- If you are a first-time eStore user you will need to create an account before enrolling. You can do this by entering an email address and password. This account can then be used for any future enrolments via the eStore.
