Each year we recruit a team of interns from – both externally, as well as from Imperial’s highly-regarded science communication Master’s programme – to work alongside staff in Communications. Communications interns produce content across the Imperial News site, our podcast and our YouTube channel, as well as provide coverage of major events such as the annual Imperial Festival.

With a background in neuroscience, I have always had a keen interest in science and media, especially writing. I’ve had the chance to explore the world of science communication as a member of a student editing and podcasting team with the British Neuroscience Association. After interning at the Science Media Centre, I gained a deeper appreciation for science news and all the different components that go into news writing, from interacting with researchers and journalists to monitoring science trends to see what the next big story could be.As I have gained experience in science communication, my interests have grown from writing to science and art, graphic design and branding, and how communication can be used to frame and tell a story. In the future, I want to learn more about the diverse forms of communication and how to reach the most people effectively. -

With a childhood fascination for space that never loosened its grip, after school I chose to study Aerospace Engineering at the Technical University of Delft in the Netherlands, a decision shaped by my Dutch roots.
During my degree, I joined the faculty magazine, using it as an outlet for creativity and exploring the social, economic and political impacts of engineering inventions.
I also completed minor in Disinformation and Strategic Communication, which sparked a n interest in the way information is shaped and consumed. It is ultimately what led me to pursue a Master’s in Science Communication at Imperial, where I am now.
Outside of my studies , you’ll find me doing something creative , like singing in my choir or woodworking, or with my nose against my kindle absorbed in a good sci-fi book.
