The Neonatal Care Leave Policy applies to parents of babies born on or after 6 April 2025. The policy is designed to provide essential support to employees who are parents of babies admitted to neonatal care within 28 days of birth. It also includes employees who are adopting a child, as well as employees becoming the legal parents of a child born through a surrogacy arrangement.
Employees will be entitled to up to 12 weeks of neonatal care leave at normal pay, in addition to their existing family leave entitlements, such as maternity, adoption, shared parental, and paternity/maternity support leave. There is no qualifying service required to be eligible for the leave.
The policy aims to help ease the challenges faced by new parents during a critical period in their child's early life, providing additional time off without a financial detriment.
