Imperial is a member of the following organisations, which provide support in the area of "placements".

Staff are encouraged to engage with these organisations.

ASET: The Work-based and Placement Learning Association

ASET was established to advance the prevalence, effectiveness and quality of work based and placement learning in Higher Education and by promoting and publishing research into that system of education.

They represent over 100 Higher Education Providers in the UK, and their communications reach nearly 2000 individual practitioners.

Their aims are to:

  • Provide strategic leadership and a national voice as a central agency;
  • Champion the concept of work based and placement learning;
  • Advise on best practice, providing training and staff development opportunities for the dissemination of good practice across the sector;
  • Offer informed and authoritative representation, advice and support to all professionals working in the field;
  • Provide a forum for groups and individuals to discuss and formulate policies;
  • Prepare, develop and publish information and research relating to work based and placement learning.

In practice they do this through running workshops and conferences, publishing good practice guides and viewpoints, promoting and supporting research, facilitating discussion through online forums and dissemination through e-bulletins, and through working with other bodies to advocate on behalf of our members.

The College's ASET contact is Adrian Hawksworth, Assistant Registrar (Placements)

You can email aset@asetonline.org in order to be added to their mailing list (information on workshops and conferences, for example, plus receipt of their monthly newsletter). Their website provides further support.

HEURO: HEURO Global - The Association of UK Higher Education International Professionals

The mission of HEURO is to provide a platform for all professionals, academic and administrative, who are involved in European and global issues in the context of UK higher and further education with a view to discussing and promoting matters of common interest and disseminating good practice. More specifically, they aim to:

  • Represent the views of its members when dealing with national and international professional and educational bodies, including the production of positioning papers on strategic issues and to act as a channel of communication between such organisations and HEURO's members.
  • Provide opportunities for staff involved in European and global mobility/educational activities to share experiences (e.g. workshops and conferences). In particular, provide initial professional development opportunities for those new to global mobility activities.
  • Promote the benefits of internationalisation in Higher Education

Imperial's HEURO contact is Adrian Hawksworth, Assistant Registrar (Placements)
